US AMBASSADOR VISITS MOKHOTLONG

The United States (US) Ambassador to Lesotho, Mrs. Maria Brewer visited Mokhotlong district from Tuesday to Thursday.

In an interview on the evening of the second day of her visit, Mrs. Brewer said she wanted to go out and know the country by visiting other districts.

When in Mokhotlong, Mrs. Brewer met with the District Administrator, Mr. Serame Linake and leaders of the security agencies in the district and discussed challenges they encounter on a daily basis.

She said it was good to hear their concerns and challenges facing the security sector in Mokhotlong and on that note, the Ambassador said they are looking for ways to improve the US support and help strengthen the security sector in Lesotho.

She added that a number of security leaders and officers were sent for training in the United States and to the Law Enforcement Academy in Gaborone, Botswana.

“Knowing their issues of concern allows us to decide what sort of training to offer or what kind of support we can provide,” she stated

She cited training on Trafficking In Persons (TIP), which is an issue that the US is concerned about, saying training on TIP has been provided.

The Ambassador also visited Touching Tiny Lives (TTL), an organisation that received grants to cater for the nutrition needs of under five children, a mini-grid project at Tlhanyaku which is intended to supply electricity to Tlhanyaku Health Facility, Baylor satellite clinical centre at Mokhotlong Hospital and the Polihali Dam construction area.

This was the first time Ambassador Brewer visited Mokhotlong for three days since Tuesday this week.
