RFP WINS THE 2022 NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS

Though the Revolutionary for Prosperity (RFP) has won the 2022 National Assembly Elections, it has fallen short of securing the much-needed two-thirds majority popular votes required to rule the country alone.

This came after the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced the final results of the 79 constituencies at Manthabiseng Convention Centre on Monday.

According to the Commission, RFP has a total of 56 constituencies instead of the required 60 plus one that would enable it to rule without seeking partnerships with other political parties.

However, RFP has won the Stadium Area N0. 32 constituency by getting party votes of 2824 for the special votes following the failed election in this constituency just ahead of the October 7 National Assembly general elections.

IEC stated that the party votes will be used for the calculation of the Proportional Representation (PR) compensatory seats while the fresh elections for Stadium Area will be held at a later stage.

RFP added to its list the Mants’onyane No.72 with 4529 votes, Mphosong No 07 (2930), Tsikoane No. 14 (2840), Mahobong No. 09 (3530), Mashai No. 76 (3533) and Thaba Moea No. 73 (3870), Pela Tsóeu No. 10 (1427) as well as Mt. Moorosi No. 67 (2467) after the IEC announced the results on Monday.

This simply means that the country will once again be ruled by a coalition government as RFP will have to seek partnerships with other political parties to form a government.

The Democratic Congress (DC) is galloping in second with a total of 18 constituencies after scooping the Hloahloeng No. 64 by 3248 votes, Phamong No. 63 (2424), Qhoali No. 68 (3606) and Semena No. 75 (2114).

Alliance of Democrats on the other hand has won a total of two constituencies after snatching Maliba Matso No. 6 by 2485 votes plus Mosalemane by 2435.

Movement for Economic Change (MEC), National Independent Party (NIP) and Socialist Revolutionaries (SR) which has won one constituency each.

The rest of the political parties that contested the National Assembly general failed to win a single constituency, including the All Basotho Convention (ABC).
