CHIEFS URGED TO CHAMPION NUTRITION TO SUPPORT HIS MAJESTY

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Nutrition (MAFSN) District Agricultural Officer (DAO) Nyakallo Pokocho called on local chiefs to become advocates for improved nutrition, aligning with His Majesty Letsie III’s role as African Union Nutrition Champion and African Leader for Nutrition (ALN) Champion.
Speaking at an agricultural dialogue organized by MAFSN, Pokocho emphasized the need for enhanced food production in villages to boost district nutrition.
Pokocho urged chiefs to participate in nutrition education sessions, noting the critical role nutrition plays in community health and development.
She highlighted that from July 2024 to the present, Qacha’s Nek has imported vegetables and meat totaling M659,000, funds she believes could be better utilized locally.
MAFSN District Nutrition Officer Lebohang Monyamane-Nthake echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the district’s commitment to combating malnutrition through improved food production and nutrition practices.
She called for full stakeholder support to tackle these challenges effectively.
Participants in the dialogue expressed gratitude and commitment to enhancing food security.
Currently, the district employs 14 agricultural assistants across six resource centers and has seen proactive efforts from Chief Makoko Makoae of Patlong, Ha Sekake, who has promoted nutrition education and food production in his community.
