The Royal family, along with Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane, cabinet ministers, and government partners, joined a prayer session with the Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL) atop Mopeli Plateau on Monday.
Government Secretary Mrs Teboho Malisebo Mokela explained that the national prayer session honored His Majesty’s upcoming birthday, to be celebrated in the district on Wednesday. .
Their Majesties also toured historical sites atop Mopeli Plateau. They visited a stream where historian Mr Tiela Molapo explained that Morena Moshoeshoe sought solace during difficult times.
Another significant site visited was the Home of Nkhono Mamohato, where women discussed cultural practices and childbirth.
Historian Mathethebale Pitso pointed out a location where Ntate Mohlomi, an influential figure, advised Moshoeshoe on leadership and community matters. This is also a place where a traditional pot and lit are found and which were used as notification and calling of a public gathering.
Historians explained that Moshoeshoe eventually left Mopeli Plateau due to its vulnerability and size constraints, relocating to Thaba-Bosiu for better security and space to expand the nation.
