The Prime Minister, Mr Ntsokoane Matekane has launched the Civil Service Charter in an event held at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre in Maseru on Wednesday.
He stressed that improved quality service delivery is every citizen’s right therefore it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that services are improved and are of quality which will be of benefit for each Mosotho.
He said it is important for the officials holding managerial positions within government ministries to ensure that civil servants are equipped with resources and training which will enable them to offer services with utmost transparency and effectiveness.
Furthermore, he urged the general public to refrain from issuing bribes to civil servants in return for services as that is also a crime on its own.
“It goes without saying that the country is faced with very slow turn over of service delivery within different government ministries which the government will not turn a blind eye on therefore the civil service charter reaffirms the government’s commitment to providing improved services”, he concluded.
On the other hand, the Minister of Public Service, Mr Mputi Mputi said that the Civil Service Charter is a document with which the government is going to ensure that every Mosotho has access to services with dignity and respect.
He added that it will ensure that there is utmost professionalism of the public service while engaging with different stakeholders towards improved service delivery.
Different government ministries have declared their commitment in ensuring improved service delivery for the nation.
A service charter is a written policy that declares and communicates an institution’s commitment to provide its services to its clients, within the framework of its mandate and tasks stipulated by legislation and regulations.
