Lesotho Reaffirms Commitment to Multilateralism at G77 and China Meeting

At the 49th Annual Meeting of the G77 and China, held alongside UNGA 80, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr Lejone Mpotjoana, has called reforms to make the UN more just, inclusive, and geographically representative.
He outlined the challenges facing developing nations, including poverty, food insecurity, and energy crises, noting Lesotho’s poverty rate of nearly 50%.
Furthermore, he called for equitable financing to support Least Developed Countries, Landlocked States, and Small Island States in achieving the 2030 Agenda.
Mr Mpotjoana stressed the urgency of climate action, particularly adaptation funding and operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund. He also underscored the need to close the digital divide, promote youth employment, and invest in education and skills.
Finally, he expressed concern over UN budget shortfalls, reaffirming Lesotho’s dedication to equity, justice, and strengthened multilateral cooperation.
