Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso on Wednesday held her first official engagement with the Ministry of Health in the Republic of Rwanda in Kigali.
She highlighted Lesotho, through the Ministry of Health, had observed that Rwanda had made significant progress in strengthening its health systems. She further said that Rwanda had established a system which enables the country to procure vaccines easily and ensure they are readily available when needed.
Her Majesty recounted that although Rwanda had now made strong gains, the journey had not been simple. She recalled that the country once experienced a devastating conflict in which nearly one million people lost their lives. She said the progress witnessed today was the result of a nation that chose unity, reconciliation and hard work towards rebuilding.
On the same token, the Minister of Health, Mr Selibe Mochoboroane, said his ministry had taken the opportunity to send health professionals to Rwanda to learn from the country’s advanced systems.
He added that Rwanda’s geographic proximity to Lesotho makes such cooperation cost-effective, indicating that Rwanda had made notable progress in agriculture which demonstrates the benefits of cooperation extended beyond the health sector. He said it was therefore reasonable for the Ministry of Agriculture to also draw lessons.
This visit marks Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso’s first official trip to the Republic of Rwanda.
