The Council on Higher Education (CHE) hosted a two-day higher education fair 2026 at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Mr. Pitso Lesaoana on behalf of the Minister of Education and Training (MoET) said CHE has a mandate to provide information to the public about higher education as well to promote access to higher education.
He clarified that the fair is deliberately taking place shortly after the release of Lesotho General Certificate of Secondary Education (LGCSE) results, to guide those who have just graduated from high school on how to proceed into tertiary education.
“The importance of career guidance cannot be overemphasized as it prevents people from making wrong career choices. Through this fair, we are bringing wisdom to our youth so that they can make informed decisions about their future,” he said.
He mentioned that all higher education institutions in Lesotho have been invited to put up stalls and share information with the public, particularly students. He noted that the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS) as the main students’ financier has been invited to present.
Mr. Lesaoana added that financiers such as Lets’eng Diamond Mine, Vodacom Foundation, Higher Life Foundation and the American Embassy were also represented.
Addressing participants, Chairperson of CHE- Dr. Mohlalefi Sefika stated this is the 11th edition of the higher education fair in which CHE has provided vital information and guidance to prospective entrants into higher education.
He stated that during this period there have been a positive impact on career choices made by many young people.
He advised students to choose careers of the future that will last forever emphasizing that some careers are devalued due to technological advancements.
One of the top achievers, Karabo Shao from Leqele high school, who obtained eight A*s shared study strategies with other students, urging them to surround themselves with motivators, do regular self-introspection and make studying enjoyable. This by joining different activities including extra-mural ones, saying success requires focus and determination.
To those who will be sitting for the 2026-27 academic year examinations, Shao appealed to study harder, stay focused and select a unique time for studying now.
This event saw universities exhibiting their products and services. CHE remains Lesotho’s council on higher education entrusted with the responsibility to verify and authenticate academic certifications for various institutions of higher learning.
