INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT REMAINS KEY – MASIU

Inspired by the 2026-27 Fiscal Year Budget, the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI) will continue to invest in infrastructure development.
This was said by Information Communications Technology (ICT) Director, Mr. Khiba Masiu giving remarks on the proposed allocation of M386,4 million that had been allocated to the ICT sector so as to advance digital transformation and expand access to modern technological services.
He enlightened that ICT infrastructure remains a cornerstone if Lesotho is to move quickly hence the Ministry is focusing more on this area, indicating they are also on the verge of Data Management Policy.
He explained that this comes at the time when the Ministry has successfully approved the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy, marking a significant step towards adoption of AI in the country.
Over and above that, he noted that issues of digitization are also crucial hence together with their stakeholders t are focusing on raising more awareness to the society on the importance of going digital with government services in line with the strategy.
Mr. Masiu further stated that they are also into capacitation of staff in order to ensure that the digital journey becomes a reality.
The budget comes a few days after the world commemorated World Radio Day under the global theme ‘Radio and Artificial Intelligence (AI)’ Redefining Broadcasting in the Digital Age.
The theme triggered debates on AI transformation especially at this period when it shapes how content should be created, distributed and consumed.
