His Majesty King Letsie III toured exhibitions by farmers and community Nutrition Clubs at Melikane Combined School in Mahoeng, Qacha’s Nek. The activity was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition in promotion of improved household nutrition and sustainable food production.
His Majesty moved through various stalls where farmers and club members showcased local produce and nutrition initiatives aimed at strengthening food security around communities.
He praised ongoing efforts to promote proper nutrition during a monitoring visit to Melikane, urging Basotho to prioritize healthy eating and strengthen household food security.
His Majesty expressed satisfaction that nutrition messages are reaching communities but noted concern that 48 percent of children under five in Qacha’s Nek are affected by malnutrition. He called for renewed efforts to address the challenge and emphasized that children are the future of Lesotho.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition Dr. Khothatso Ts’ooana, thanked His Majesty and the community for supporting the initiative, while local school leaders highlighted efforts such as planting fruit trees and growing vegetables to promote healthy eating lifestyle.
