The Bureau of Statistics (BOS) commenced a 12-day training workshop for 91 assistant supervisors in Berea to prepare them for the upcoming national census operations.
Statistician Mr. Mohau Sekhutšoane said the purpose of the workshop is to equip assistant supervisors with the necessary skills and guide them on how to correctly complete census questionnaires.
He added that at the end of the training, the assistant supervisors will sit for a test to assess their understanding of the material, as they will later be responsible for training enumerators in their respective constituencies.
Meanwhile, ICT Coordinator Mr. Tšoanelo Mokoma urged the participants to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in their duties, stressing that consuming alcohol while on duty is strictly prohibited.
Mr. Mokoma further explained that assistant supervisors will oversee the work of an average of four to five census enumerators and ensure completeness, and full coverage of data within their assigned areas.
He also noted that they will be responsible for ensuring that enumerators operate within their designated Enumerator Areas and synchronize the data they collect daily.
The Bureau of Statistics conducts national censuses and surveys to gather Population data and living conditions information to enable government plan development programs and allocate resources effectively.
This will be Lesotho’s first fully digital census.
