PRIME MINISTER MATEKANE VOWED TO ADD 500 MORE LDF RECRUITS AND LAUNCHED A FULL-SCALE WAR ON DRUG DEALERS

Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane pledged to recruit an additional 500 soldiers into the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) during the next financial year as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security.
Speaking at the LDF pass-out parade held at Makoanyane Barracks where 547 recruits successfully completed their military training, Mr. Matekane said the country is facing a serious threat from drug trafficking and substance abuse among young people.
He said drugs are being sold within communities by individuals who are destroying the future of the nation’s youth for personal gain.
The Prime Minister warned that decisive action will be taken against drug dealers, saying he expects the army leadership to work with relevant authorities to identify and bring perpetrators before the courts.
Mr. Matekane stressed that every parent wants to see their child succeed and have a bright future, free from the dangers of drug abuse.
He urged the newly graduated recruits to serve the country with dedication, courage and discipline, saying their primary responsibility is to safeguard peace and stability in Lesotho.
Meanwhile, Lesotho Defence Force Commander Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela said military service is more than employment, describing it as a calling that requires professionalism, integrity and selfless service.
He noted that the number of recruits graduating today remains insufficient to fill existing vacancies within the army and expressed hope for further recruitment in the near future.
Speaking on behalf of parents, Mr. Moholobela Seeiso congratulated the Recruits and described their achievement as the beginning of a demanding but noble career dedicated to protecting the nation.
He called on communities and families to support the soldiers as they undertake their duties.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to recruits who excelled during training, in recognition of their outstanding performance and commitment.
