GOVERNMENT TO HOLD LEADERSHIP FORUM AND ACCOUNTABILITY SUMMIT

The Government of Lesotho will host a Leadership Forum and an Accountability Summit aimed at strengthening governance, accountability, transparency and service delivery as part of its commitment to building an effective and responsive public sector.
The Leadership Forum is scheduled for June 21-23, 2026, while the Accountability Summit will take place from July 1-3, 2026.
Speaking during a press conference held to sensitise members of the media on the upcoming events, Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara said Prime Minister Samuel Matekane, in his inaugural address, emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening governance systems, enhancing accountability and ensuring effective service delivery while eliminating corruption.
Justice Majara said the government remains committed to building a professional and accountable public service. She noted that Lesotho has undertaken various initiatives and drawn lessons from countries that have demonstrated excellence in governance, including Rwanda, whose achievements have earned international recognition.
She said the Government of Lesotho had been inspired by Rwanda’s successful implementation of good governance practices and was seeking to adapt some of these approaches to the local context in order to improve service delivery.
According to Justice Majara, the Leadership Forum will provide national leaders with an opportunity to assess their performance, strengthen service delivery across various sectors and identify challenges that hinder efficient service provision.
The Accountability Summit, on the other hand, will serve as a platform for citizens and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to engage directly with leaders by asking questions, seeking clarification and providing feedback on matters affecting them, thereby promoting transparency and public participation.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the two events form part of the government’s broader efforts to foster a culture of accountability and good governance, which are essential for the country’s sustainable development.
Ministers present at the press conference on the upcoming Leadership Forum and Accountability Summit aimed at strengthening good governance included Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara, Honourable Stephen Mputi, Honourable Moeketsi Motšoane, Honourable Motlatsi Maqelepo and Honourable Matjato Moteane.
