Office of the Prime Minister advised the State House sexual harassment complainant to open a case in to open a case in accordance with the applicable procedures.
This is according to a press release from the Office of the Prime Minister, following reports making rounds in social media platforms on allegations of sexual harassment involving an officer of the Office and the complainant.
It indicates that the Office earlier engaged the police, and the complainant was advised to open a case in accordance with the applicable procedure, adding that the matter having been referred to the police, the Office believes that it will
receive due attention.
It highlights that the Office became aware of the allegation against the Officer by the complainant, indicating that in recognition of Gender Based Violence (GBV) as a serious threat to human rights, dignity and the safety of individuals, the Office listened both to the complainant and the officer, taking into account the particular vulnerability that may accompany reports of sexual harassment and GBV, including fear of stigma, victimization, intimidation and further harm.
It adds that in keeping with this approach, the Office immediately brought the allegation to the attention of the Commissioner of Police highlighting the complainant’s concerns and fear of victimization associated with reporting matters of this matter.
The press release therefore emphasizes the Office commitment to respect and supports the investigation and provide any cooperation lawfully required, adding it will also take appropriate administrative measures, where necessary, to safeguard
the integrity of the process and the wellbeing of those involved.
Meanwhile in an interview with the Agency, Pastor Relebohile Tuoane said she was not in a position to comment as the matter has already been referred to court.
