Dr. Khothatso Ts’ooana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, attended the 49th Session of the IFAD Governing Council which took place from 10–11 February 2026 at IFAD Headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Dr. Ts’ooana participated in the session in his capacity as the newly appointed Governor for the Kingdom of Lesotho to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The 2026 Governing Council convened under the theme “From Farm to Market: Investing with Young Entrepreneurs,” with a strong focus on empowering rural youth, promoting inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth, and marking the launch of the International Year of the Woman Farmer.
Lesotho and IFAD share a long-standing and valued partnership aimed at improving rural livelihoods, strengthening food security, and reducing poverty in rural communities. Over the years, IFAD has supported Lesotho through the financing of key agricultural and rural development initiatives and projects, particularly those targeting smallholder farmers, women, and young people.
