Thirty years after the landmark Copenhagen World Summit for Social Development (WSSD), global leaders have convened in Doha, Qatar, for the second such summit, running from November 4th to 6th, 2025.
This critical gathering aims to assess progress, confront persistent challenges, and lay a new foundation for social development, drawing directly from the principles of the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration.
The Doha 2025 Summit reaffirms these core commitments: eradicating poverty, promoting full and productive employment with decent work for all, and fostering social inclusion – ensuring no one is left behind in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
Lesotho’s delegation to this pivotal summit is led by His Majesty King Letsie III, accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr Lejone Mopotjoane, Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Development, Mr Pitso Lesaoana, Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr T’seliso Mokhosi, The Permanent Representative of Lesotho to the United Nations Mr Matete ‘Nena, Ambassador of Lesotho to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ms Nt’siuoa Sekete, Ambassador of Lesotho to Kuwait, Mrs ‘Manthabiseng Phohleli, Senior Private Secretary to His Majesty Principal Secretaries, Chief of Protocol and other senior government officials.
Their participation underscores Lesotho’s dedication to global social progress and offers a platform to share national achievements.
His Majesty King Letsie III will present Lesotho’s perspectives and, as the African Union Champion for Nutrition, will also participate in global leaders forum on nutrition.
The Doha 2025 WSSD aims to redefine strategies for social progress, strengthen global partnerships, and promote inclusive policies, with the ultimate goal of building more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable societies for all.
