The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Nkaku Kabi says districts resource centers will sell fertilizers to farmers from 4 November 2021.
He said this at the press conference held in Maseru on Friday.
He said that farmers will not be restricted in taking a certain number of fertilizers, saying the ministry is working tirelessly to deliver fertilizers in the districts.
He urged Basotho to engage in crop farming in a larger scale, saying agriculture has the ability to boost the country’s economy.
Mr. Kabi urged farmers to register for ploughing their fields so that the extension officers would take measurements of their fields, saying the ministry has decreased a price of a hector again this year.
He assured Basotho that the ministry is going to provide fertilizers, saying Lesotho is blessed with rich soil and that there is no reason why Lesotho still depends on other countries as the country spends M3.9 billion to import grains from other countries.
Talking about wool and mohair, he said they held a meeting with Post Bank and the Ministry of Small Business, Cooperatives and Marketing, noting that payment of wool and mohair farmers has been scheduled for November 08, 10 and 11 starting with Quthing, Berea and Leribe while other districts will follow.
This comes after all farmers across the country had a queue for fertilizers in Maseru.
