The President and Chief Executive Officer of Nutrition International, Mr. Joel Spicer and his delegation have visited Lesotho.
Upon their arrival on Sunday, they visited Ha ‘Masana Nutrition Club known as ‘Mathemaloli’, where various products were showcased.
Addressing members of the club, the President said he will be in Lesotho throughout the week and that he comes after Lesotho was represented by Prime Minister, Mr Ntsokoane Matekane at the AU Summit.
He commended the nutrition club for their efforts in enhancing nutritional status of Basotho, especially growing children and breast feeding mothers.
“Us being here is a step towards exploring more areas of avenues in order to promote good nutrition habits. We want to ensure that clubs such as this one make an impact on the grounds and are supported holistically hence our visit,” he further said.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Deputy Principal Secretary, Mr Ts’eliso Lesenya told the Lesotho News Agency (LENA) that, Mr Spicer is also here on the invitation of His Majesty King Letsie lll as the African Union Nutrition Champion.
He added that while in Lesotho, the delegate will meet with various nutrition stakeholders in an attempt to ensure access to nutrition for all, including children in rural areas who are mostly affected by stunting.
On the other hand, LENA has established that the nutritional team will further hand over a report of the fact finding mission of September 2024 and sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government.
The areas of corporation as according to information from Food and Nutrition Coordinating Office (FNCO) of the office of Prime Minister include strengthening of governance, coordination and resource mobilisation.
It is further expected that during the week, Mr Spicer will also meet with among others, UN Resident Coordinator, Development Partners and the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defense to mention but a few.
