THE GOVERNMENT DONATED BLANKETS AND RADIOS TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN PROTECTING THE REGENERATION OF LANDSCAPES AND LIVELIHOODS PROJECT [ROLL]

 Quthing District Administrator, Mr. Bonang Tlali, presented 300 blankets and 20 walkie‑talkie radios to crime prevention committees from 15 villages near  Lets’eng‑La‑Letsie catchment.
The handover ceremony was held at a private woolshed in Thabong, Mphaki.
The donation, pledged in April this year by Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane, was made to strengthen community efforts in safeguarding the Regeneration of Landscapes and Livelihoods (ROLL) project.
The Prime Minister had initially announced the pledge in April during the official handing over of a new animal dip tank at Letlapeng in Likhaebaneng cattle posts.
Mr. Tlali commended the Prime Minister for fulfilling his promise, urging the committees to use the blankets and radios responsibly to support their work.
He noted that additional pledges, including school uniforms for children in the project area, adding that they are forthcoming once logistical preparations are completed.
Chief Mpiti Letsie of Ha Tlhaku emphasized the importance of Letseng‑La‑Letsie, designated as Lesotho’s only internationally recognized Ramsar Wetland Site.
He called for collective efforts from chiefs and committees to ensure the sustainability of development initiatives in the catchment.
Inspector Teboho Rakolobe of Mphaki Police Service Area expressed gratitude, highlighting that the radios will enhance communication between chiefs, police, and communities in maintaining peace and security.
Mrs. ‘Mathetso Mosololi, Chairperson of the Crime Prevention Committees, praised the donation, noting that committees in the Seforong area have consistently demonstrated dedication and effectiveness compared to other areas.
The 15 villages which benefitted include Peete, Mahlomola, Kelebone, Mokhosi, Mopeli, Lebelonyane, Tsitsong, Pulane, Mabina, Jobo and Ts’iu.Chiefs across Seforong area.
