The Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ms Nthati Moorosi has emphasized the urgent need to nurture and empower young leaders as a critical step toward national development.
Speaking at the Children’s Parliament, Minister Moorosi highlighted that grooming young leaders is in the best interest of the country as it cultivates a generation of foresighted, informed and actively engaged from an early age.
“We must create platforms where children and youth can participate meaningfully in matters that concern them, even the smallest decisions. This will help us understand what truly works best for them,” she stressed.
She also highlighted the importance of inclusion, and advocated for young people’s involvement in key national processes such as budget planning and allocation, saying their perspectives are crucial in policies that directly affect their future.
Furthermore, she raised concern about the growing incidence of child abuse in the country.
She called on all stakeholders, government agencies, NGOs, parents, teachers, and communities, to come together in a united front to combat the abuse and exploitation of children.
“We must be unforgiving in advocating for children’s rights and ensuring their safety. This is a responsibility that belongs to all of us,” she concluded.
The Children’s Parliament was attended by youth leaders, civil society organizations and policy makers. It marked a strong call to action for both youth empowerment and child protection reforms in Lesotho.
