BASOTHO HONOUR MORENA MOSHOESHOE 

Basotho from all spheres of life converged in Thaba-Bosiu on Tuesday to commemorate of Moshoeshoe ‘s day.

Dignitaries, officials and learners from different schools and a total of 112 LDF officers on parade were all there to witness the august event.

“I was told that Morena Moshoeshoe l loved and cared for children, being here today is meant to bring memories of those good deeds”. Tefo Hlasa aged 11 of Livingstone primary  school said this in an interview with Lesotho News Agency (LENA).

He added that, as growing children, they aspire to become citizens Morena Moshoeshoe had in mind when he founded the nation, urging parents to help them become such.

The event saw His Majesty King Letsie III leading other Principal Chiefs to lays wreath on top of Thaba-Bosiu Mountain, there were speeches and activities to commemorate this day later on.

Morena Moshoeshoe is said to be the first King of Lesotho, he was the first son of Mokhachane, a minor Chief of the Bakoteli lineage, a branch of the Koena (crocodile) clan.

In his youth, he helped his father gain power over some other smaller clans. In 1820 or at the age of 34, Moshoeshoe succeeded his father as the Bamokoteli chief and formed his own clan. He is said to have been the first and the longest-serving King in 1822.
