HIS MAJESTY CALLS FOR BOLDNESS, INNOVATION

The National University of Lesotho’s (NUL) Chancellor, His Majesty King Letsie III has strongly urged this year’s convocation to be bold, innovative and entrepreneurial.
This he said during the opening ceremony of the week-long 50th convocation of the NUL themed, ‘Equipping Graduands with Impact’ held at Roma on Monday.
The golden jubilee convocation was launched with conferment of degrees for 195 graduates in the Faculty of Humanities.
He said this is their day, their convocation encouraging them to become solution makers for their community and country.
He said their achievement should be the foundation of a brighter future.
He said today’s celebration reflects deeply on the theme which resonates profoundly with the university’s vision to produce graduates who are not only academically equipped but who make meaningful contributions to the community and country.
“We celebrate men and women who have worked hard to acquire knowledge and skills to improve Lesotho.
Faculties have been working with dedication so that graduates address complex challenges facing the country and whole world”, he said.
The King indicated that as they mark the 80th anniversary, this highlights the institution to equitable achievements. He added that as they celebrate graduates’ achievements, they also recognize their potential saying they have gained deeper understanding of social, cultural and economic factors.
He emphasized that today’s celebration of 50th convocation and the 80th anniversary are testimony to the university’s resilience.
At the same occasion, Vice Chancellor Professor Isaac Fajana said they celebrate the 50th convocation which marks another milestone of the university.
He said despite the  uncertainties that characterize higher learning, God has been with them.
He thanked the Chancellor and leaders of the country for their unwavering support. He said the road project from St. Michael’s to Roma is going to add value to them and the community therefore they appreciate it.
He also expressed gratitude to management of the university, alumni, students and staff.
On the other hand, Prof. Fajana mentioned that for the four years that he has been here, he has enjoyed his stay due to the support offered.
He highlighted that the university continues to train and equip graduates with knowledge, skills and integrity to face the world. He urged them to be innovative, bold and entrepreneurial and use skills acquired to succeed in the market world.
He highlighted that this is his fifth time addressing the convocation saying he appreciates all the support adding that he gained immense experience managing the university.
He called on graduates to be ambassadors of the university and use knowledge and skills to inspire others.
On behalf of graduands, Senate Letsie said they are the first to launch the graduation ceremonies, saying humanities students are loud and they have set the bar high.
She thanked their parents for working hard to make their dreams a reality. She urged her peers not to forget the sacrifices behind their celebration.
She stressed that the degrees they are getting today are not theirs alone but belong to every single person who helped them along the way.
Meanwhile the conferment were in different fields including Diploma in Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics, Diploma in Spiritual Care and Counselling, Bachelor of Library and Information Studies, Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Spiritual Care and Counselling, Bachelor of Arts in Practical Philosophy and Applied Ethics and Bachelor of Arts in Humanities.
