LESOTHO REAFFIRMS TO SADC PEACE INITIATIVES

The Prime Minister Mr Ntsokoane Matekane joined the rest of the Head of states and governments who participated in the SADC virtual Extraordinary SADC Summit, where Heads of State and Government deliberated on the deteriorating security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In this summit, Lesotho reaffirmed its commitment to the SADC-led peace initiatives and emphasized the need for a structured withdrawal of SADC troops that ensures both the safety of personnel and the prevention of a security vacuum.

The Prime Minister also underscored that military efforts alone cannot bring lasting peace, stressing the importance of political and diplomatic solutions to the conflict.

A key outcome of the Summit was the reinforcement of the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes, with a renewed commitment from all parties to facilitate inclusive dialogue among stakeholders in the DRC conflict.

Lesotho fully supports this approach, recognizing that regional stability depends on collaborative and sustained peace efforts.

As SADC moves forward with its decisions, Lesotho remains committed to playing its part in ensuring that peace, security, and stability are restored in the DRC and across the region.
