Lesotho will hold a one-day workshop in Maseru on Monday which comes as an initiative by International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).
The workshop will be under the theme “Re-Thinking the Use of Tax Incentives and Other Investment Promotion Tools in Lesotho.”
In an interview with Lesotho News Agency (LENA), the Lesotho National Development Corporation`s (LNDC) Corporate Communication Manager, Ms Tiisetso Moremoholo said that the workshop is part of a three-year technical assistance programme by the IISD to support Lesotho in incentive reform.
She said the workshop aims to bring stakeholders together for a dialogue on how to improve Lesotho’s investment framework.
Furthermore, she highlighted that it is also a platform to the stakeholders to look into ways of optimizing tax incentives as a trade promotion tool and how Lesotho can position itself to align and leverage on the Global Minimum Tax.
“Some of the core priorities of the International Institute for Sustainable Development include enabling economic policy-making in support of sustainable development, including investment, trade, public procurement, infrastructure financing, and sustainability standards, with sector-specific practices in agriculture and mining.
It also looks into Helping governments, civil society, communities, and businesses manage climate- and conflict-related risks and, through the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Global Network, supporting developing countries to advance NAP processes and accelerate climate change adaptation efforts.
