MADAGASCAR BEGINS TENURE AS SADC CHAIR OF MINISTERS

 The Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) met from Tuesday August 12 in Antananarivo, Republic of Madagascar to deliberate on key programmes, policies, and initiatives.

The above pillars are aimed at: Deepening regional integration, Strengthening peace and security and Fostering inclusive economic growth.

 This year’s Council is being held under the theme: “Advancing Industrialization, Agricultural Transformation, and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC”.

 The highlight of the meeting was the ceremonial handover of the Chairmanship of the SADC Council of Ministers from Professor Amon Murwira, Minister of International Relations and Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, to Dr. Rafaravavitafika Rasata, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Madagascar.

 Over the three-day meeting, Ministers will review progress on the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030, consider institutional reports, and adopt decisions to advance industrialisation, infrastructure, food security, energy transition, and peace and security in the region.

 Meanwhile the meeting serves as a preparatory platform for the 45th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government on August 17, where final recommendations will be considered and adopted.

 Lesotho’s delegation prior to the summit is headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International relations Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane.
