The Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ms Nthati Moorosi, is currently in Ghana for a working visit aimed at deepening cooperation between the two countries in the digital and creative sectors.
During a bilateral meeting, the Minister and her Ghanaian counterpart, Mr Samuel Nartey George identified several areas of collaboration which include the following:
– Sharing knowledge and best practices on e-government services, policy frameworks, and organising joint workshops.
– Capacity building through exchange programmes in cybersecurity, data management, and digital innovation.
– Technology and infrastructure development, especially projects to improve internet connectivity.
– Supporting entrepreneurs in fintech, health tech, and agri-tech through shared resources.
– Joint research and development in emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, and Big Data.
– Public–private partnerships to drive investment and innovation in the digital space.
Minister Moorosi noted that Ghana has effective strategies to tax digital platforms like Netflix, DSTV, and Showmax — lessons Lesotho will apply to boost national revenue. Ghana will also help Lesotho create systems to ensure Basotho content creators can monetize their work online.
The Minister will visit Ghana’s Cybersecurity Authority to learn how they safeguard digital spaces, and there are also plans to exchange TV content between the two countries — creating jobs in dubbing and translation.
She expressed gratitude for Ghanaian YouTuber Wodemaya, whose work greatly increased Lesotho’s visibility. The Minister highlighted opportunities to exchange content creators for tourism promotion.
In conclusion, she warned about the growing threat of AI-generated videos aimed at discrediting leaders and defrauding the public. She said the ministry is working on investing in AI video detection tools and running public awareness campaigns to combat disinformation.
“By sharing knowledge and resources, Lesotho and Ghana can accelerate digital transformation, improve service delivery, and foster inclusive growth for our people,”she said.
