The Ministry of Home Affairs, through the Public Sector Foundations for Service Delivery (PSFSD) Project, has commenced a five-day stakeholder consultation workshop aimed at modernizing and digitizing Lesotho’s national identity management system.
The workshop, taking place from 29 June to 3 July 2026 at the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI) Boardroom, brings together key stakeholders to deliberate on the future of civil registration and identity management services in Lesotho.
The initiative forms part of ongoing collaborative government efforts to develop a comprehensive Modernization Framework designed to strengthen the National Identity ecosystem and support the digital transformation of civil registration, immigration, passport, and identity management services.
To facilitate this process, the Ministry has engaged AAM Consultancy, represented by Mr. Akos Szirmdi, to assess the existing systems and develop a comprehensive systems architecture and implementation framework that will guide the reform process.
During the workshop, AAM will present the proposed Systems Architecture Design and Modernization Framework, outlining the legal, institutional, and operational implications of the proposed reforms. The consultations are intended to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to review the proposals and contribute valuable input towards the development of a robust and integrated digital identity system.
Participants at the workshop include representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, MICSTI, the National Identity and Civil Registry (NICR), Immigration Services, Passport Services, the Legal and Procurement Units, Information Technology specialists, AAM Consultancy, as well as other technical and business stakeholders.
The project is expected to significantly improve service delivery by creating an efficient, secure, and integrated identity management system that supports Lesotho’s ongoing digital transformation agenda.
