Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso joined a diverse group of representatives drawn from state and non-state at an Data Governance workshop on Tuesday.
The gist of deliberations on the workshop was more on foundational digital infrastructure for data governance.
Taking participants through the topic, the Kenyan facilitator who is a human rights and ICT lawyer, Advocate Victor Kapiyo pointed out the importance of ICT databases and systems talking to each other.
He said as the world focuses on going digital now more than ever, there is a need to ensure that government services are not only digital, but duplication must be avoided at all costs.
“Our Ministries systems should be in alignment hence digital infrastructure becomes critical,” he added.
He mentioned key components of the digital infrastructure namely: data centres, cloud, broadband and connectivity to mention but a few.
Furthermore, he stressed the need for the right policies to ensure that speed for the said infrastructure is facilitated, adding that digital infrastructure allows for use and sharing of systems both products and services.
Meanwhile, one of the participants, Ms Mpho Rakotsoana said workshops such as these bring together those sharing similar expertise to exchange knowledge and build more networks.
The workshop aims to instill more understanding on data governance for clear domestication of policy framework. It is hosted by the Ministry of Information and supported by the African Union Development Agency amongst others.
