WORLD BANK SUPPORTED MINISTRY OF EDUCATION SCHOOLS’ BUILDING INFRASTRUCTURE.

World Bank and the Ministry of Education and Training launched Lesotho Education Improvement Project [LEIP] supported by the World Bank to benefit every Mosotho child to access quality, affordable education in line with Lesotho Education Sector Plan 2016-2026.

Speaking at this Sod-turning event at Ha Lepolesa, Qalabane, in Mafeteng district, World Bank Country Representative, Mrs. Dinara Djoldosheva said for decades the World Bank and the Government of Lesotho have worked side by side to expand opportunities for Basotho Children since 1990’s when major investments under the Education Sector Development Project helped to build classrooms at large scale, supported Curriculum and assessment reforms that strengthened the foundations of Learning, though there are significant challenges that are still encountered within education system where in most communities children learn under difficult situations such as shortage of classrooms, inadequate sanitation and unqualified Teachers who lack training and educational resources.

Moreover, Mrs. Djoldoshea reaffirmed that World Bank stands ready to stay committed in support of Lesotho Education system to ensure that education is translated into jobs, resilience and inclusive growth for Basotho, she stressed that the Project’s success depends on all namely: Teachers, school Principals, School boards, Communities around Schools, Local Chiefs, Councils and District Administrators.

The Minister of Education and training, Professor Ntoi Rapapa announced that they launched the building Project [LEIP] funded by Lesotho government and World Bank which consists of Fifty-two [52] Primary schools and fifty-eight [58] Post-Primary schools totalling up to hundred and fifteen [115] to be all built in 2026. He acknowledged that as the Ministry, they are faced with enormous challenge of lack of resources, that’s why they are tirelessly compelled to seek funding and assistance everywhere to overcome all these challenges that negatively impact Basotho Childrens’ Education especially those living and attending mountainous area Schools, where recently personal households have turned out to be classrooms to facilitate teaching and learning processes.

Minister of Finance and development Planning and a Member of Parliament for Qalabane, Dr. Rets’elisitsoe Matlanyane, was also present to witness the milestone achievement within her Constituency.
