The government and UNDP Lesotho launched digital inclusion and digital literacy initiative at Lerotholi Polytechnic, Maseru on Tuesday.
The Deputy Principal Secretary (DPS) in the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), Mrs Lineo Ramabele, said that the launch is another step to digital inclusion, which is at leaving no one behind.
She further stated that the government of Lesotho is working hard to ensure that every Mosotho has access to Digital World- Digital Health, as well as Digital Agriculture.
She highlighted that there are 40 communities’ digital ambassadors who have been trained and that they are ready to do their work in the society.
“We are moving to the future where every village will have access to digital infrastructure, and no one is to left behind”, she said.
On the other hand, The Principal Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) Mr Ratšiu Majara indicated that the availability of the equipment given today is very important, and will help pave students for better future, as they will fill the identified gaps in their education. He also added that this collaboration will shape the better Lesotho digitally.
On behalf of UNDP Lesotho Mr Tay Amssalu, congratulated the effort made by the MICSTI and MOET as they mark a pivotal journey in digital transformation, adding that it will bring a change in digital world.
Mr Tay said he was delighted to handover laptops and tablets to the digital ambassadors who were awarded certificates.
Lastly, Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) Chief Executive Officer Mr Nizam Goolam said he was inspired to be part of the initiative that built computer labs for high schools, and connect Wifi to Universities to improve digital infrastructure to ensure that everyone is friendly to digital world.
