YOUTH STATE VIEWS ON UNEMPLOYMENT

Prime Minister (PM) Ntsokoane Matekane took time out to meet and engage with the youth from different parts of the country on Wednesday at Manthabiseng Convention Centre in Maseru.

The cardinal objective of  the meeting was to give a platform to contribute ideas on how address the high unemployment levels and joblessness. Hundreds of youth from all districts came to share their views with the the Prime Minister.

Present in the meeting was PM  Ntsokoane Matekane, his Deputy Justice Nthomeng Majara, some minister’s, Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso, senior government officials and some heads of diplomatic missions in Lesotho . The meeting was under the theme” Collective Contributions to Curb Youth Unemployment ”

Some youth including those with disabilities urged the government to permanently absorb those with qualifications in government Ministries instead of offering temporary jobs.

Others urged the PM to stage job fares like the flee market so that they could showcase their talent, skills and qualifications to network with job providers.

One  Thapelo Maieane said youth have fresh ideas and solutions thus need to work permanently for the government, adding that the latter should come up with subjects which are work orientated instead of being told their qualifications are unsuitable for some job opportunities.

He also said civil servants should retire at the age of 50 to 55 to create more job opportunities for youth.

On the other hand, Lieketseng Macholotsa said youth with disabilities are under presented in opportunities given to youth, appealing to ministries to provide information in a form of video not only audio or use sign language interpreters as some youth have hearing impaired.
