The Ministry of Energy and Mining, through the Lesotho Electricity Generation Company (LEGCO), is proud to announce the launch of Phase II of the Ramarothole Solar Power Project in Mafeteng on 10 July 2026.
This exciting expansion will add 50MW of renewable energy generation capacity to the existing 30MW from Phase I, bringing the total capacity of the Ramarothole Solar Plant to 80MW.
The project will also include an 8MW Battery Energy Storage System, enabling electricity generated during the day to be stored and used at night, improving reliability and energy security.
This development marks a significant step towards Lesotho’s goal of achieving energy self-sufficiency, reducing dependence on imported electricity, and driving sustainable economic growth.
The launch will bring together stakeholders from government, the energy sector, development partners, and local communities as we celebrate another milestone in the country’s renewable energy journey.
