Lesotho continues to play an active role in shaping the global conversation on Artificial Intelligence. The establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) in Shanghai brings together 29 countries to promote international cooperation and fair access to AI. The organization aims to ensure that developing countries are not left behind in the AI revolution.
The Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Honourable Nthati Moorosi, had been a strong voice for Africa and developing countries in global AI discussions. Through her leadership, Lesotho has consistently called for inclusive AI governance, stronger digital infrastructure, skills development and access to technology that reflects the realities of developing countries. She has also stressed that African countries should not only use AI but must also help shape the rules and systems that govern it.
For Lesotho, this global cooperation creates opportunities for skills development, access to computing resources and the development of AI solutions that respond to local needs in areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture and climate change. Lesotho remains committed to working with international partners to ensure that Artificial Intelligence becomes a tool for inclusive development and improved lives for all Basotho.
