The Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI) in collaboration with the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) officially launched the Interim Lesotho National Computer Security Incident Response Team (LesComCSIRT) and hosted the inaugural National Cybersecurity Forum (NCF) in Maseru.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of MICSTI, Honourable Nthati Moorosi, said the strategy is a critical step towards securing Lesotho’s digital future. She noted that as technology continues to evolve, the country must put in place strong cybersecurity measures to protect government systems, businesses and citizens from growing cyber threats.
The Minister emphasized that the strategy will provide a solid foundation for building secure digital infrastructure, protecting digital payment systems, and creating an environment that encourages innovation and investment. She added that a secure digital economy is essential for expanding access to global markets.
She further highlighted the importance of safeguarding the country’s digital infrastructure, saying that investors are more likely to invest in a country with strong cybersecurity measures and trusted digital systems. She also stressed that building institutional trust will be key to the successful implementation of the strategy.
The launch marks an important milestone in Lesotho’s efforts to create a safe, resilient and inclusive digital environment that supports economic growth and national development.
The landmark event brought together government leaders, regulators, industry experts, development partners and key stakeholders to strengthen Lesotho’s national cybersecurity resilience, enhance coordinated responses to cyber threats and advance a secure and trusted digital future for the Kingdom.
