APRM MISSION PAYS COURTESY CALL ON PM

The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Continental Secretariat mission led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Professor Eddy Maloka paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro at Qhobosheaneng.

In an interview after the closed session, Foreign Affairs Minister, Mrs. ‘Matšepo Ramakoae said the mission will allow for thorough discussions between Lesotho and the secretariat in terms of maximising APRM work locally.

In addition, she said Kenya has recently shown interest to be reviewed adding that Dr Majoro will be part of the panel to assist in this regard hence the visit.

On the same note, Professor Maloka assured APRM support to Lesotho as the country is preparing to revitalise the national structure since the last APRM review in 2009.

He said they are willing to offer technical assistance as such is the mandate of APRM, thus ensuring that all AU member states come on board and become APRM members.

In conclusion, he pointed out that his APRM team will give a schedule regarding this mission entailing whom he will meet while in Lesotho and why. However, the Spokesperson has also learnt that the media has already undergone APRM sensitisation training this week.

Established in 2003, APRM is an African entity under African Union established in 2003 meant to review member states in line with four thematic areas namely; good governance and democracy, the economy as well as development. The secretariat is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The last review in Lesotho was in 2009 after voluntarily joining in 2004. Lesotho became the 12th country to join APRM and at least more than 40 countries have since joined.
