LDF WELCOMES LAST CONTINGENT FROM MOZAMBIQUE

Lesotho Defense Force (LDF)  on Thursday welcomed the last platoon of the 3rd contingent of the its members which was deployed in the SADC Mission In Mozambique (SAMIM).

While welcoming the contingent, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Mr Limpho Tau said that the return of the troops is a true indication of victory for the LDF in their assignment back in Mozambique.

He stated that as the government, the Basotho nation at large as well as their families they are grateful for their return home and still safe.

He added that since their deployment of the LDF in Mozambique three years ago all that have been received is positive results of the restoration of peace in their areas of deployment.

Speaking of their journey, the Contingent Commander Colonel Tefo Ramosie said that they departed Mozambique on Saturday and had been driving as they were bringing home the equipment that the troops were using while in Mozambique.

He stated that they were 15 men who all arrived home safe with minimal challenges that soldiers face in their travelling journeys.

The Lesotho Defence Force contingent was first deployed in Mozambique in 2021 under the SADC mission following the approval of the Extraordinary SADC Summit of Heads of States and governments which was held in Maputo in June, 2021 as a regional response to support the Republic of Mozambique to combat the terrorism and acts of violent extremism.

In this deployment, the Lesotho Defence Force lost at least 3 soldiers, where one died of Malaria, the other on a car accident and the last one while shot in the battlefield.
