The Counsellor of the Kingdom of Lesotho Embassy to the Peoples republic of China Ms ‘Mamats’eliso Mokhele extended an invitation to Chinese investors to explore opportunities in Lesotho, saying they can contribute to the growth and development of Lesotho.
Speaking during the Africa – China Trade and Investment round-table conference hosted by Great Africa Human Mother (GAHM) International, on Tuesday, she said Lesotho offers unique investment opportunities in a dynamic and emerging market. She added that with its strategic location, political stability, diverse economic sectors and business-friendly reforms, the country is positioning itself as a key player in Southern Africa’s growth story.
She highlighted that for investors who are looking to be part of an exciting and evolving market with high growth potential, Lesotho welcomes them with open arms. She stressed that the government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive while private sector has an important role to play in building a prosperous future for the people of Lesotho.
Furthermore, she indicated that like any emerging economy, Lesotho faces its own set of challenges including infrastructural deficits particularly in transport, energy as well as the vulnerability of agriculture to climate change.
However, she said that the said challenges should not be viewed solely as obstacles but as opportunities for growth and innovation, adding that the country’s infrastructural needs present substantial opportunities for investment in construction, logistics and transport sectors.
Ms Mokhele went on to highlight that Lesotho’s breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage and unique positioning as the “Kingdom in the Sky” offer significant potential for the tourism industry and with improvements in infrastructure and marketing, tourism can become an increasingly important revenue earner.
“Lesotho is already attracting tourists seeking adventure, trekking and cultural experiences but with further investment in tourism infrastructure, this sector could see exponential growth”, she emphasised.
On the other hand, GAHM Co-Chairperson, Mr. William Wang said that the event is intended to promote cooperation between Africa and China.
He said that the investors are willing and ready to invest in Africa in different sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, energy, and mining to mention a few.
Meanwhile different Ambassadors, Counsellors and representatives gave speeches including the Ambassador of Namibia, Cape Verde, Malawi, Liberia, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad and others.
