Prime Minister Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane says Lesotho remains committed in upholding peace regionally, particularly Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He said this during a press conference on Tuesday, when giving a report on the Southern African Development Committee (SADC) Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Harare, Republic of Zimbabwe last week.
According to the PM, the Summit informed Heads of State that some troops from Malawi, South Africa and Tanzania died as a result of the ongoing war initiated by M23 rebels in DRC.
He conveyed condolences to the bereaved families, and added that the Summit made a decision that Security Ministers and their entourage will be send to DRC in an attempt to examine the situation. He highlighted that SADC and East African Community will also converge to seek lasting solution to DRC instabilities.
“As the region, we truly aspire for peace in DRC, thus want negotiations rather than military intervention, hence will support all measures intended to restore peace as innocent people continue to die in that country”, he said.
The Summit was chaired by Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Chairperson of SADC. It deliberated on security situation in DRC.
