Prime Minister Mr Ntsokoane Matekane says that meritocracy is the way to go in the development of every country.
He said this in Beijing China, on meeting with Basotho community in diaspora mostly of whom are students.
He said in order to prosper they should employ people on merits and not any other way. He added that the students are in China because they are the future of their country, stressing that they should work hard so that they go back home victorious.
“Let us prepare and acquire skills and knowledge so that we could have the Lesotho we want. It is up to you as young people to take Lesotho to greater heights”, he highlighted.
Commenting on Basotho students not getting opportunity for English teaching program in China, he said that the embassy is already facilitating that saying hopefully soon there will be tangible results. Moreover he acknowledged that Lesotho is not utilizing scholarship programs adequately but promised that the matter will be attended to.
On the other hand one of the students Mr Theko Tlebere thanked the Prime Minister for making time to meet with them, adding that the PM`s talk about meritocracy has given them hope that after completing their studies when they go back home they will be considered based on their skills and knowledge and not political affiliations.
He urged the government facilitate that they get opportunities like teaching English while here and other job opportunities especially with Lesotho faced with such high unemployment rate.
