The Chief of Ha Ndebele in Mohale`s Hoek, Chief Toka Letsie on Sunday pleaded with his counterparts to educate herd-boys and communities at large about the significance of tourism in the country.
Speaking in an interview with LENA after about 20 hikers from Thapoha Hiking Club spend the night in his village on their journey to Thabana-Ntlenyane, he said he has made friends with the team.
He highlighted that tourists, if well taken care of, could create jobs for villagers and help develop communities they visit, adding that he was overjoyed to finally meet the hikers who had informed him about their arrival prior to the journey.
On the other hand, Thapoha Hiking Club Vice President, Mr Ntai Ntjelo applauded the team for making it to the end despite challenges encountered along the 14 days hiking, like losing mobile phone networks due to the scarcity of towers in other areas, but asserted that the hike has been more successful than the 2023 one.
One of the hikers Lerato Lali noted that the main challenges were that some of them developed foot blisters, however echoed the same sentiments that the hike was indeed more successful than the previous one.
The 3 Ranges Trail was launched by the Minister of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, Mr Motlatsi Maqelepo on September 28 at Morifi.
