MP’s RETURN FOR UN SECRETARY GENERAL 

Parliamentarians will return from the Christmas recession on Thursday, to listen to the United Nations Secretary General’s speech.Mr. Antonio Guterres will address both National Assembly members and Senators during a joint seating in  Maseru on the same day.
A letter issued by Clerk to the National Assembly, Advocate Fine Maema headlined, ‘Third Special Meeting of the 11th Parliament of the Kingdom of Lesotho’, shows the meeting will be held at the New Parliament Building Maseru on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 2:30pm.
This recall, according to Advocate Maema is done in terms of Standing Order No. 14 (2) and it is to welcome the UN Secretary General in Lesotho.
Prior to Christmas break of the National Assembly a few weeks ago, the  Speaker of the House, Mr Tlohang Sekhamane had asked Parliamentarians to show up in large numbers when they are recalled.
He had highlighted that Lesotho is part of the UN family  and that it was essential that an international visitor to the Mountain Kingdom be welcomed with open hands.
It is anticipated that Mr Antonio  Guterres will arrive on Wednesday, upon which he will pay a courtesy call to His Majesty King Letsie III. He will  also visit Katse Dam as well as lay a wreath on top of the Thaba-Bosiu hill before departure on Friday, Information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations has also shown.
Lesotho remains part of the  UN family whose agenda is to ensure development in various angles for all its member states, issues of economic development and peace promotion among others being at the top.
