The Minister of Information, Communication, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ms. Nthathi Moorosi participated as a panel member at the Global Innovation Forum held in Valletta, Malta.
During the forum, she addressed key opportunities for advancing digital innovation to drive prosperity in Lesotho and discussed ways to strengthen collaboration among the public sector, private companies, and civil society to meet the country’s specific needs and challenges.
In her response, Ms. Moorosi emphasized that digital innovation is essential for economic prosperity, social inclusion, and sustainable development in Lesotho. She noted that overcoming challenges such as rural connectivity, digital divides, and limited resources requires a collaborative approach across various sectors.
“Lesotho’s National Digital Transformation Strategy prioritizes expanding connectivity and developing digital public infrastructure (DPI) to bridge the urban-rural divide and support essential services such as health, education, and agriculture,” she explained.
Additionally, she highlighted the government’s goal of implementing a robust digital ID system to facilitate real-time digital transactions and improve public service delivery.
Ms. Moorosi stressed the importance of cross-sector collaboration, noting that the public sector can lay the groundwork through policies such as the revised Information and Communications Technology Policy, now referred to as the National Digital Policy, along with data protection laws.
The Global Innovation Forum (GIF) is a flagship event of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), designed to explore the trends and pressing needs of countries regarding digital innovation.
