The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr Kanono Ramashamole, opened a virtual consultative meeting as Chair of the African Union body responsible for communication and information technologies.
The session aimed to finalize the draft guidelines that will guide African Union Member States during the World Summit on the Information Society Plus Twenty Review negotiations to be held from 14–17 December 2025 in New York.
The meeting brought together Member States and international partners to refine Africa’s common position. In his opening remarks, Mr Ramashamole stressed the importance of speaking with one voice and ensuring that Africa’s digital priorities guide the global discussions.
He highlighted key areas in the draft guidelines, including digital inclusion, capacity building, sustainable digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and access to emerging technologies. He further noted the need to align these positions with international strategies such as the Baku World Telecommunication Development Conference Action Plan.
Lesotho also made contributions on issues it considers vital to the future of the World Summit on the Information Society process.
