GOVERNMENT SPENDS OVER M250 MILLION ON ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCY OF TRAFFIC REGULATIONS.

Motorists, in particular farmers, are urged to maintain a safe distance and ensure visibility when driving slow-moving agricultural equipment in order to prevent road accidents.
This was said by Road Safety Officer Mr. Setsoto Putsoa in an interview with the Agency, saying the above is crucial in this season as farmers are about to engage in winter cropping while others are already harvesting their produce from the fields.
He also urged farmers to ensure all lights and turn signals are working, appealing to those navigating ox wagons to prioritise visibility and strict adherence to traffic regulations.
“There must be a visibility reflective tape on all sides of the wagon to make it visible in low-light conditions” he added, advising motorists to give agricultural equipment enough space when driving and pass only when it is safe.
Reports indicated that about 300 people die each year in the country due to road accidents and further adds that the government spends over M250 Million on accidents which hinders its ability to focus on other priorities.
