Minister of Public Works and Transport,Mr. Matjato Moteane has reaffirmed Lesotho’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Republic of Korea and African partners through increased trade and investment, infrastructure development, renewable energy, digital transformation, skills development and agricultural cooperation.
This was said when he delivered Lesotho’s intervention at the Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, under the theme ‘Strengthening Economic Cooperation: Promoting Shared Prosperity and Sustainable Growth’.
He emphasized the importance of empowering youth and women, promoting value addition and industrialization and advancing sustainable economic growth for the benefit of future generations.
The Minister further underscored the need for partnerships that deliver tangible outcomes through technology transfer, capacity building and responsible investment, while advancing Africa’s development priorities under Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
On the other hand, Ambassador Theko Retselisitsoe during the Senior Officials’ Meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening the Korea-Africa partnership in addressing shared global challenges, including food security, climate change, resilient supply chains and sustainable development.
He highlighted Africa’s growing economic potential and reaffirmed Lesotho’s commitment to fostering mutually beneficial cooperation with the Republic of Korea. He further highlighted Lesotho’s strengths in renewable energy, water resources and its youthful population, noting that stronger Korea-Africa cooperation can create opportunities, enhance resilience and contribute to shared prosperity for both regions.
The first ever Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting convened in Seoul gathering representatives from 50 African countries and four regional organizations to discuss ways to broaden cooperation on economic and global challenges.
Foreign Minister Cho Hyun co-chaired the meeting with Ghana’s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who serves as vice-chair of the African Union. It is the first time the Korean government has invited all 54 African nations, along with four regional bodies to a standable ministerial meeting.
