Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Justice Nthomeng Majara presented Lesotho Candidate for the position of the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Mr. Joshua Setipa ahead of Samoa elections to be held later this year.

Justice Majara did during her bilateral meeting with the Acting Prime Minister of the Bahamas this past weekend.

Information from the Ministry of Information shows that this position will also serve as Southern African Development Community (SADC) position as well.

Meanwhile, a letter from Mr Elias Magosi, SADC Executive Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Lesotho, Mr Lejone Mpotjoane indicates that at a meeting held on March 11, 2024, in Luanda, Angola, the SADC Council of Ministers considered the request from Lesotho for the endorsement of Mr Setipa as the candidate for the Commonwealth Secretary-General position.

Commonwealth is an international association of 56 member states, many of whom are former territories of the British Empire.
