FAMILY WELCOMES DAUGHTER FROM UKRAINE

The family of Rethabile Lepolesa, a medical student at the Vinytsia National Medical University in Ukraine, welcomed their daughter at Moshoeshoe I International Airport on Tuesday.
This comes after the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mrs. Matsepo Ramakoae delivered a statement regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine in Europe.
When addressing the nation on National Television, Mrs. Ramakoae assured Basotho that the three Basotho students studying in Ukraine had safely left the country to neighbouring countries following the war between these two countries.
The Minister noted that Lesotho is a country of peace therefore it encourages Russia and Ukraine to solve their issues peacefully.
She expressed pleasure that the three Basotho students safely left that country and were assisted by the Lesotho Embassy from that region saying there are allegations that there is still Basotho left in Ukraine.
She, therefore, appealed to the families of Basotho in those countries to contact the ministry, saying the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with Lesotho embassy are working together to ensure that Basotho in Ukraine arrive safely in Lesotho.
She also encouraged leaners in Russia to go to the nearest countries as it is not safe for them to be in Russia, saying they might be affected.
In an interview with Rethabile Leponesa upon her arrival, she said it was not easy to travel from Ukraine to the nearest country as many people wanted to cross the border.
She said they experienced discrimination when crossing the border as Asians were given priority to cross the border while others were only given chance thereafter.
She said they were assisted with flight tickets to come home by the embassies of Lesotho in Italy.
The other two students are expected to arrive later this week.
