Basotho applying for passports at the Maseru office have applauded the Department for extending passport services to weekends.
In an interview with the Agency, one of the applicants Ms. Lineo Makatjane said that the extension of services to weekends has been a good initiative as it enables people who are occupied with work during weekdays to access the services.
She indicated that the weekend arrangement has made it easier for her and other applicants to apply for passports without having to take time off from work.
She noted that the initiative demonstrates the government’ s commitment to improving service delivery and making essential services more accessible to the public.
She urged the department to continue with the initiative saying it would benefit many Basotho who struggle to access government services during normal working hours.
Meanwhile, other applicant Mr. Motumi Sekonyela also expressed appreciation for the initiative noting that weekend services help reduce pressure on those who cannot visit the passport office during weekdays.
The weekend shift was introduced last year with the purpose of relieving the overwhelming spike in passport demand.
