HEALTH RECEIVES AMBULANCE

Letšeng Diamond Mine has donated a fully equipped and modern ambulance to the Ministry of Health at the ceremony held at the Ministry’s Headquarters building in Maseru on Wednesday.

When handing over the donation, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Letšeng Diamond Mine, Mr. Kelebone Leisanyane said this donation will go a long way in contributing towards improving patient transport considering the overwhelming challenges that are brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Leisanyane said this donation is yet another demonstration of the excellent collaboration relations between Letšeng Diamond Mine and the government of Lesotho in finding solutions to the challenges that confront Basotho daily, noting that this ambulance will go a long way in saving lives and improving the quality of life by ensuring that quality services are delivered by the Ministry of Health during an emergency.

He mentioned that the ambulance is equipped with the latest medical technology to enable the emergency service to get to the scene of accidents quickly to stabilise patients before they are given special medical attention.

He noted that as the war against the outbreak of the pandemic rages on, Letšeng will continue to pledge its support in the fight against the pandemic and other primary health care challenges.

The CEO mentioned that this donation amount to M1, 082, 557.00, adding that in 2020-2021 Letšeng has spent M957, 000 on community relating to COVID-19 interventions, M252,000 on a modular structure which was donated to the National Reference Laboratories, M552, 000 for the purchase of 17 while M2,760. 00 was spent on 20,000 COVID-19 jabs thus making a total spent of M5,621,557.00 in the fight against the COVID-29 thus far.

Receiving the donation, the Minister of Health, Mr. Semano Sekatle thanked Letšeng Diamond Mine for the donations it has given to the ministry since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying this donation comes at the exact time when the ministry needs more support to combat the outbreak of the pandemic.

Mr. Sekatle said this will help the ministry to achieve its mandate which is to ensure safety for everyone affected by COVID-19 and this ambulance will allow Basotho living in the terrains of the country to get medical assistance when needed.

Moreover, the minister noted that the country has secured vaccinations urging Basotho to get vaccinated to protect themselves against the pandemic.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, Letšeng Diamond Mine has supported the Ministry of Health with modular structure, oxygen concentrators and the ambulance.
