The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Hon. Lejone Mpotjoane received the Letters of Appointment of Mr. Alankar Malviya as Country Director and Representative of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS to the Kingdom of Lesotho.
He succeeds Ms. Pepukai Chukikwa and will serve from the UNAIDS Multi-Country Office in Pretoria, overseeing Eswatini, Lesotho, and South Africa.
Lesotho values the continued partnership with UNAIDS in coordinating and strengthening the national HIV response. As the country sustains progress following the achievement of the 95-95-95 targets in 2024, Government reaffirms its commitment to working closely with UNAIDS to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 supporting the Ministry of Health.
UNAIDS in Lesotho provide strategic direction where it works with the National Aids Commission [NAC] to implement the national HIV and AIDS strategic plan [NHASP] 2023-2028, technical assistance for HIV/TB Integration, Data and technical support for facilitation of HIV Surveillance and data -driven, client-centered care and record reviews for treatment retention.
